6 tips to Make Your Washing Machine Last Longer

We wear clothes every single day, which means we clean our clothes almost every day, and it also means we need washing machines to work whenever when it comes to washing clothes.

For electronics or any home appliances, it could be easily broken as we use them every day, and it could be even worse if we misuse it. Therefore, if we want to extend the durability of our home appliances and electronics, we not only use them properly but TAKE GOOD CARE of them with the appropriate methods.

In Nigeria, we have two major types in the market, the semi-automatic with 1 or 2 tubs, and the automatic with usually one tub. And as we can see, most models that people have been using are the semi-automatic models. So, this article will be focusing on the maintenance of the semi-automatic models. In spite of that, some of the tips could work for automatic washing machines.

  1. Level the Washing Machine

We all know washing machines will intensely vibrate when it’s in the spin cycle. And if it is not paralleled with the floor or not in the leveled condition, it could probably start to “walk,” and it has a high possibility to damage the machine.

You can use a regulator or a spirit level to help you correctly install your washing machine in a leveled condition and make sure the legs evenly sit on the ground. If you have no any regulators or tools to help you install, you can TEST it by initiating the spin cycle to see if it vibrates too dramatically or even start walking.

Leveling the washing machine to the ground can help it not to “walk” away and bring harm to itself.

2. Do Not Overload or Wash the Improper Items

To properly use a washing machine, the basic idea is not to wash too many clothes and blankets at one time. First, with washing too many pieces at a time, the clothes and blankets can not be thoroughly cleaned, and secondly, it could be harmful to the machine, especially to the motor.

If you put something hard or bulky, that’s bringing the damage to the machine immediately.

3. Leave the Lid Open after Finishing the Washing or Spinning Cycle.

After washing or draining your clothes, there must be water in the tub. If you don’t leave the lid open to let it dry, the bad condition like musty odor and mildew will occur quickly, and it might decrease the cleaning effectiveness.

It’s an important tip that you leave the lid open after the washing task has been over in order to get rid of the musty odor and mildew.

4. Clean the Washing Machine

After each washing task, there must be some residues of soap, dirt, or chemicals in the tubs, and those elements could stain the clothes at the next round of washing tasks. You can use hot water, baking soda, or vinegar, depending on what is handy to get for you to wash out the residues materials.

5. Clean the Filter

The filter could catch a lot of dirty materials, and it’s better to clean them out of the filter so that it can keep the cleaning effectiveness at functional status.

To keep the tubs and the lint filter clean can make sure the clothes will still be clean for the next washing level.

6. Replace the Water Hoes

Check the water hoe annually at least to see if it has a leaking, bulking, or cracking situation. If any problem is found, replace the water hoe at once.

These tips are the basic maintenance methods to last the durability of washing machines longer. The ideas are easy: properly use it, check it regularly, execute some solution to keep it in good condition. However, if you find any issues that you can not define or fix, I would strongly suggest you call a mechanic or the provider to check or repair it for you.
